Computer Crime Consultant’s work in the detection, investigation,
prosecution and prevention of computer crime spans a wide range of sectors
and industries. The following examples illustrate the breadth and nature
of assignments we have successfully undertaken.
Design and Information Assurance
Design and implementation of secure builds for corporate rollout of Microsoft
Windows Server and Workstation for a FTSE 250 company.
Design and build of a secure Internet network infrastructure for a FTSE
250 company.
Design and installation of a multi-site Firewall and DMZ (Demilitarised
Zone) for a multinational company. This solution allowed for the integration
of a secure corporate network that, in addition, could safely accommodate
use by incoming corporate acquisitions and authorised external partners.
Examination of bespoke finance software prior to final sign-off to verify
that it was free from contamination with malicious or extraneous computer
codes. In a similar exercise, CCC was asked to examine a company’s
software following the unanticipated departure of an employee to ensure
that nothing had been carelessly or intentionally left behind.
Analysis of company-specific rollout software to identify and correct
weaknesses: the additional software we authored was also designed to go
on to maintain satisfactory levels of security within the environment.
Investigations and Prosecutions
Identified anomalies in user access activity revealed that bogus employees
were engaged in acquiring intelligence on behalf of competitors. CCC discovered
the true identity of the recipients, tracked down and retrieved the propriety
information they had misappropriated and secured the system against future
breaches.
Acting on behalf of a multinational, CCC analysed network traffic and
captured electronic evidence which identified those responsible for leaking
information critical to a potential takeover. CCC was then able to identify
systems used by the suspects, the analysis of which found complementary
and irrefutable evidence of their complicity.
Covert monitoring of a number of network administrators who were found
to be abusing their privileges and accessing confidential information
for personal benefit.
CCC secured and examined evidence which demonstrated
that employees of a multinational were seeking to use proprietary information
to set up a rival organisation.
CCC was commissioned by a FTSE 100 company to analyse the method by which
a hacker had successfully breached its website security and to gather
data to evidential standards for criminal proceedings. In addition CCC
secured the site against other vulnerabilities that were found during
penetration testing.
CCC has provided expert witness services for Police Forces requiring
the gathering, analysis or validation of computer related evidence. We
have assisted in the prosecution of cases including murder, rape, fraud,
blackmail, drug trafficking and sexual offences.
